Craig Cummings

Before co-founding Moonshots Capital and turning to venture investing full-time, Craig co-founded and exited two companies: BTS in the defense space and RideScout in mobility and transportation.
As an operator-turned-investor, he regularly takes board seats at Moonshots Capital's portfolio companies to provide hands-on guidance. His current and recent board positions include Outpost Space, Proteus Space, Shep (acquired by Flight Center), Zabo (acquired by Coinbase), Threatcare (acquired by Reliaquest), and BTS.
Craig spent 17 years in the U.S. Army as an Intelligence Officer, most of that time supporting the National Security Agency. He deployed to Afghanistan with Joint Special Operations Command, where he earned the Bronze Star, and served as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at West Point. He holds a B.S. in Political Science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he was their first Truman Scholar, and a Ph.D. in Political Science with a minor in Econometrics from Columbia University.
Craig has been recognized by HillVets as one of the 100 most influential veterans in the United States, named by Inc. Magazine as one of the Top 20 Military Veteran Entrepreneurs, awarded the Greg Armstrong Future Texas Veteran Legend by the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and selected for Future Union's "Intrepid List" of Top 100 Investors supporting democracy. He is a member of the 2016 Class of Henry Crown Fellows with the Aspen Institute.
He is an active member of the Texas entrepreneurial and military veteran landscape, and serves on the Advisory Boards of VetsInTech, Texas Venture Labs at UT McCombs School of Business, and as Special Advisor for Military and Veterans Affairs at Capital Factory.
Craig is married to Lawton Cummings, a General Partner with Capital Factory. They have two children and live in Austin, Texas.
